Meet our latest addition to the Bridges Team—Karen Bridgewater, who will be there to support you in your darkest moments.
“As the Programme Coordinator for Bridges, in partnership with the Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System, I’ve dedicated over 30 years to the field of social care. My journey began with a deep-rooted passion for enabling older people to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. This passion has guided my career, whether I was working directly with individuals or collaborating with public figures, councillors, and community leaders.
A pivotal moment in my career was when I decided to pursue a Master’s Degree in Assistive Technology at the age of 40. This academic experience opened my eyes to the incredible potential of modern technology in enhancing the quality of life for older adults. From remote monitoring systems to smart home devices, technology can play a crucial role in helping individuals maintain their independence and comfort at home.
In my role at Bridges, I am privileged to carry forward the vision of Murry Hall, which emphasises the importance of valuing people and communities. Our service is committed to respecting the dignity of every individual, especially during their most vulnerable moments.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is supporting individuals in the last 12 weeks of their lives. This opportunity allows me to offer compassion, respect, and recognition of each person’s unique journey, ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve while feeling valued and heard.
Together, let’s build a future where every older person can enjoy dignity and respect. “
